Special Talk-Back: Friday, October 24

Stay after Friday night’s performance for a special conversation led by
Dr. Susan Thompson exploring identity, empathy, and the emotional underpinnings of human connection.

Together with the artists, she’ll unpack The Zoo Story through a psychological lens: why we connect, why we avoid, and what theatre can still reveal about us.

Included with your ticket. Don’t miss this rare intersection of art and psychology.

Dr. Susan Thompson

Dr. Susan Thompson has a PhD in Psychology, with specializations in Child, Adolescent and Adult Development, Eating Disorders, and Sports Performance, and has been a Psychology Department Faculty Member of Kwantlen Polytechnic University since 2001.  She was also a Mental Health Counsellor for Vancouver Coastal Health for 27 years.
Susan has worked with athletes at all levels to improve sports performance and increase the learning efficiency of practices.  She has worked with several Young Riders Dressage teams, individual athletes in other disciplines, and with several High Performance coaches, helping them all to have the correct focus for both their training and for competition.  Athletes also deal with fear of injury, especially returning to the sport after an injury has occurred, and so anxiety management in these situations, along with positive mental rehearsal, can be very effective.
Anxiety and worries can impact any learning or performance situation, so having more control over your emotions and thoughts can improve your performance and let you find the joy in being your best!  Let the world see what you can really do, without being held back by anxiety.

Help Shape the Future of Independent Theatre
